Our approach

How we think about edtech

We are pro-instruction.

We all know that the best instruction comes from a child's teacher and their parents. Our apps exist to reinforce that instruction with focused practice or targeted instructional support, not to substitute for it.

We build on what works.

Whether it's retrieval practice and spaced repetition for students, or research-based planning frameworks for teachers, every app is grounded in research-backed evidence for effective learning and teaching.

A support for learning, not a shortcut.

AI and digital technology is a support for learning, not a shortcut. Our tools are designed to sharpen thinking for students and for teachers. We build each app for thoughtful, focused use and avoid extended screen time or hands-off automation.

How to use these apps

Designed around the principles we teach in our PD.

For students, that means retrieval practice, spaced repetition, immediate feedback, and explicit instruction. For teachers, it means using AI and digital tools to handle rote work so you can spend more time on the parts of teaching that require professional judgment, thoughtfulness, and personalization for your classroom.

For students

Our recommendations for student apps

Use as a supplement.
We believe that new course concepts should be introduced by a teacher or parent. Our apps are great for reinforcement, practice, and fluency-building.
Keep sessions short.
Educational screen time should fit thoughtfully within a child's overall daily screen exposure. Digital learning sessions can be kept short and be effective.
Pair with live discussion and instruction.
Utilize the printable worksheets for in-class review, and follow up learning with personalized discussions for each student to monitor progress.

For teachers

Our recommendations for teacher apps

Use AI to start, not to finish your work.
Support with AI can save you time for the more time-consuming aspects of teaching, but your professional judgment is what matters most. You know your students best, and an AI tool will never fully replace what your expertise and judgment can.
Keep a mindset of improving thinking, not replacing it.
Your lesson sequencing, differentiation choices, and student-specific decisions are best determined by your own expertise. Use these tools for the prep work around your own decisions, and never rely on AI tools to replace them.
Review, refine, and make it your own.
Using digital and AI tools is only effective if they solve a direct problem in your classroom. If a tool produces something not quite right for you or is misaligned with your curriculum, it's not effective. Review and refine every worksheet, digital tool, or planning document before making it your own and applicable to the students in your classroom.
